Exploration Catalogue

Each session, campers choose four explorations — hour-long deep-dives that meet daily for five days, led by passionate coaches. They're how a camper might pick up archery on Monday and finish the week with a tournament award; or learn three crochet stitches and walk away with a project of their own.

Below is the full 2026 catalogue. Offerings vary by session.

Archery

From their first arrow at five yards to scored rounds at seven, campers progress through safety, form, and aim — capped by a friendly tournament where every camper earns recognition. Expect personal score cards, team challenges, and the satisfying THWACK of an arrow finding its mark.

Arts & Crafts

Campers build a clay creature on Day 1, paint it on Day 2, press their own button pins, make cyanotype sun prints with leaves and flowers, then fold mini zines for a Friday gallery walk. Five mediums in five days — and every kid leaves an artist.

Athletics

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Sprints, long jump, throwing, and relay batons — with sack races and egg-and-spoon mixed in. Junior campers build to a full field day with ribbons; Senior campers compete in a timed mini-meet with starting blocks and personal records.

Band/LOB

Campers start on hand drums and ukuleles, layer rhythms in a drum circle, and write an original group song together. By Friday they perform it live for the whole camp — lyrics, chord progression, and parts they invented from scratch.

Baseball & Softball

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Junior campers learn throwing, catching, and batting off the tee or coach pitch, then play a Friday game with no strikeouts and silly base-running stops. Senior campers level up to pitching mechanics, bunting, cutoff throws, and a championship scrimmage.

Basketball

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Junior campers build dribbling, passing, and BEEF shooting form through Knockout, HORSE, and 3v3 games — closing with a tournament. Senior campers run pick-and-rolls, learn zone defense, and compete in a refereed full-court tournament.

BBs

Campers learn range safety, proper stance, and aim with air rifles, then track their progress on personal score cards across the week. Friday brings a friendly tournament with awards for accuracy, improvement, and form.

Board & Card Games

A rotating week of strategy, party, and classic games — Codenames, Settlers, Spades, Sushi Go and more. Campers learn the rules, sharpen their tactics, and walk away with a few new favorites to bring home.

Boating

Campers paddle canoes through a buoy course, learn solo kayak strokes, and complete a supervised capsize-and-recover drill. Friday's timed Navigation Challenge weaves through five lake stations — including a portage and a bell to ring at the finish.

Bracelet Making

Campers learn knotted, woven, and beaded bracelets — chevrons, candy stripes, friendship knots, and wrap styles. They leave with a small collection on their wrist and at least one ready to give to a friend.

Crochet

Beginner and advanced sections offered

Beginners go from slipknot to a finished coaster, bookmark, or pouch in five days. Advanced crocheters add double, half-double, and granny squares, then build a personal bag, hat, or scarf — all displayed at a Friday maker's market.

Culinary Arts (LOCA)

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Led by Pink

Real time in the kitchen — knife and stove safety, flavor identification, and a fresh recipe to make and eat each day. Campers leave with skills they can actually use at home, plus a few favorites they're already excited to cook for their family.

DJ

Campers learn the basics of DJing on real controllers — beat matching, smooth transitions, and how to read a room. By Friday each DJ has built and performed a short set for the group, with crowd hype guaranteed.

Dungeons & Dragons

Campers create their own characters, learn the d20, and play through a five-day collaborative campaign with combat, riddles, moral dilemmas, and a final boss. By Friday they've mapped a world together and earned an epilogue for their hero.

Fishing

Advanced section offered

Campers move from luck to skill — learning four lure types, reading the water for shade and structure, and keeping a real fishing journal of every cast. By Day 4 they've built a custom lure, and Day 5 is an expert derby where every kid fishes with a strategy they planned themselves.

Make It, Move It

Movement and dance from the ground up — campers warm up with rhythm games, learn choreographed routines, and build their own short pieces in small groups. Friday's showcase puts every group's number on stage for the whole camp.

Mindfulness

Box breathing with a stuffed-animal Breathing Buddy, body scans, a silent nature walk, guided visualization. By Friday's Mindfulness Fair, every camper leads a three-minute activity for the group and walks away with a personal toolkit of three techniques they can use back home before tests, before bed, anywhere.

Music

Day 1 starts on djembes and body percussion; Day 2 moves to ukulele and the four chords that unlock a hundred songs. Mid-week the group writes original lyrics together — chorus, verses, the whole thing — and rehearses it for Friday's live performance for the whole camp, encore included.

Newspaper — The Branch

Campers learn the 5 W's, conduct real interviews around camp (the kitchen staff, counselors, fellow campers), and write articles in their own voice. The exploration ships two full printed issues — distributed at meals — with bylines, headlines, illustrations, and the unmatched feeling of watching someone read your words.

Pickleball

Beginner and advanced sections offered

Grip, serve, the dink, and the famous kitchen rule on the way to a Friday doubles tournament with a real bracket reveal. Campers go from nervous first rallies to strategic doubles play — with awards for both the championship team and best sportsmanship.

Robotics

Campers build and program small robots — wiring motors, writing simple code, and iterating until the robot does what they want. Friday's final challenge runs every robot through a course built by the group.

Rock 'n' Read

Quiet reading paired with snacks, music, and cozy spots — plus time to share what you're loving with the group. By Friday every camper has a favorite passage to read aloud and a list of new books to bring home.

Soccer

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Junior campers learn dribbling, passing, and basic positioning through games and small-sided scrimmages. Senior campers add tactical play, formations, and a Friday tournament with team names, brackets, and sideline cheering.

Step

Five foundational moves — stomp, clap, thigh slap, chest hit, and the cross — built into call-and-response patterns and an original group routine, with each small group choreographing an 8-count of their own. Friday's performance lands every beat in unison; the floor literally shakes.

Learn to Swim

Campers progress from comfort in the water to floating, kicking, and basic strokes — with daily challenges that meet each swimmer where they are. Many leave able to swim a length of the pool for the first time.

Theater

"Yes, And", costume-accessory improv, and Character Speed Dating loosen everyone up before the group devises an original sketch show together. Each camper builds a character with a name and a fear, takes a turn in the Director's Chair, and performs Friday for the whole camp — playbill signing afterward.

Volleyball

Offered for Junior and Senior campers

Junior campers learn bumping, setting, and serving with modified rules and lots of touches. Senior campers add spiking, blocking, and rotation — and both sections close with a tournament.

Wilderness Skills

Beginner and advanced sections offered

Beginners learn fire building, knot tying, shelter, and basic navigation. Advanced campers add water purification, map and compass work, and a final challenge that puts every skill to the test.

Yearbook

Campers shoot photos around camp, write captions and short features, and lay out the official Live Oak yearbook. Every camper helps make the book — and the finished issue is printed and shared at the end of the session.

Yoga

Sun Salutations, Tree, Warrior, and trust-building partner poses paired with breathing techniques like Box Breath and Bumble Bee. Campers design their own mini-sequence to teach the group on Day 5 and take home a personal Calm Toolkit card with five go-to poses they can use before a test or before bed.
