Trip Overview
Mississippi is LOWA's entry-level adventure for campers new to the outdoors or looking for a gentle introduction to wilderness skills. Campers spend some nights at the LOWA shelters in Camp Sojourn's separate wilderness area, where they learn the fundamentals of outdoor living in a safe, supportive environment. They also stay some nights at Bogue Chitto State Park, offering the opportunity to set up camp at multiple locations.
Throughout the trip, campers practice tent setup, camp cooking, fire building, and teamwork. Day explorations take them to incredible local destinations including Red Bluff -- often called "Mississippi's Mini Grand Canyon" -- the Pearl River, and surrounding natural areas. It's the perfect stepping stone toward bigger LOWA adventures.
What You'll Do
Camp Skills
Learn tent setup, camp cooking over stoves, fire building, and knot tying -- all the essentials for future wilderness trips.
Day Explorations
Visit Red Bluff ("Mississippi's Mini Grand Canyon"), hike along the Pearl River, and explore the natural areas near camp.
Teamwork & Leadership
Work together on group challenges, learn to support your crew, and build confidence in the outdoors.
Culminating Campout
Put all your new skills to the test with an overnight campout in the LOWA wilderness area at Camp Sojourn -- the highlight of the trip!

Each trip holds 10 adventurers. Join the waitlist if it's full and we may open additional trips.
Trips start co-ed. If signups allow, we may split some trips into single-gender groups.
20% multi-session discount available when attending more than one session (Summer Camp or LOWA). Scholarships available.
