Trip Overview

The North Carolina trip is LOWA's signature backcountry experience. Campers backpack through Pisgah National Forest and the Shining Rock Wilderness, one of the most beautiful and rugged sections of the Appalachian Mountains. Expect sweeping vistas over the Blue Ridge Mountains, rushing white water rivers, and trails that wind past beautiful boulders and towering cliffs.

This trip is rated medium to challenging and is best suited for returning LOWA backpackers or physically active first-timers who are ready for a real challenge. Campers hike 4-8 hours per day carrying a full backpacking pack, navigating varied terrain from ridgeline trails to river valleys.

The crown jewel of the trip is a day of white water rafting on the Nantahala River -- one of the premier rafting destinations in the eastern United States. It's an exhilarating way to cap off an incredible backcountry adventure.
